Embrace Change

One of the biggest lessons that I have learned in life is that control is an illusion. You cannot control what the universe has in store for you. When you try to control an outcome, it will backfire on you. If something is not meant to be, then accept it and move on. And good luck trying to control another person. I have tried many times to make someone change to be the way that I wanted, and it never worked out. I can only change myself, and I can be in control of that. The biggest thing I can control is my attitude.

You may have painted the way you thought your life should be, but in life we are meant to learn important lessons for personal growth. So that picture that you painted will not turn out the way you want it to. Life is full of twists and turns and one of the most important things you can do is embrace change.

When I was growing up, I imagined I would have a very settled life. I thought I would be married with children, and we would all be spending time with the same group of close friends. Instead, I was sent down a path of many learning lessons that have brought me to where I am today. I found close friends in the places I lived, but they eventually moved away. We remain close today, but that dream of always spending time with them did not happen. I got into a volatile industry, which caused me to be laid off three times in the period of five years. I was not fired but faced restructures. I certainly did not see that coming at all. If you want to learn tenacity quickly, get laid off that many times in a short period of time. You will see that you are a very strong person who has the capability to get knocked down and quickly get back up again. I thought I would quickly find a partner, as I considered myself a catch. Well, that did not happen. It was later in life that I found someone. And due to various circumstances, having children did not seem to be in the cards. Now, as my partner finishes school, I transferred jobs. We now reside in different cities. So, none of this I saw coming or was included in the picture I painted for myself.

During all of this, there were periods of anxiety and fear, but I eventually learned to just go with the flow of life. I learned that change is inevitable, and there is no point in fighting it. If it were not for all those circumstances, I would not have spent the majority of 2021 writing a book and starting a YouTube channel. I am so happy that life has brought me to this place, and I am so grateful for this new venture in my life. Change had to occur for me to get here.

So, if you are struggling with change, look at life as an adventure. You may not currently understand why things are happening to you, but there is a reason behind it. Look for the lesson and try to grow as a person. Open your mind to new opportunities. Doors may open for you that you never imagined. See change as something that is exciting, because no matter what, you can’t avoid it.
